    Universality:

    Is the subject matter of the poem meaningful only to the poet? Does the poem deal with the human experience, and if so, is it successful in adding to the reader’s understanding?

    Structure, Form, Flow

    Question 4
    Are the thoughts of the poem presented in an organized structure? Is there meaning to the writing, and is that meaning realized?

    Question 5
    Is the form of the poem appropriate to the theme or topic? Does the form let the reader’s mind flow through the poem?

    Has the writer chosen the words of the poem to enable the poem to convey its intent? Does it avoid clichés or overused imagery?

    Question 8
    Does the poem create a pleasing effect using rhyme and meter and/or effective word placement?

    Does the poem use word sounds via assonance and alliteration that create a mood?

    Question 10
    Is the poem free from grammatical errors, misspelled 
    words, typos, etc.?

    Effectiveness/Reader Response:


    Question 11
    Candidly assess the total impact of this poem.  Realistically evaluate its likelihood of a successful editor considering it for publication.
    Use these Guidelines:

    Use this section to give the piece a holistic assessment, with 10 being incredible, evocation, spectacularly skillfully done, ranging down through 1 being that the entry did not work at all and made no impression (or a bad impression for the wrong reasons).

    Save the entrant's file by performing a "File... Save As..." then click on the beginning of the file name and add the word REV_ in front of the file name then click SAVE.  Next... click on the upload file to send back their file with your comments/suggestions in it. Remember...our entrants want to see your comments. If you did not add any comments to the entry file, then please make your general comments about their work in the field below. Your comments are the entire reason the entrant entered the contest... to receive a qualified industry critique.
