Please follow this procedure for each entry that the contest coordinator emails to you:
- Save the contest entry to your hard drive.
- You may wish to make corrections or comments directly on the electronic copy of the entry as you read it. If so, first make a new file using Save As and name it “Revisions for” and then the title of the entry (ex. Revisions forThe Great Escapade). Please use either “Track Changes” or make your suggested notes and comments in red font. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER DIDN'T ADD YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THE FILE
- Select the contest category score sheet (novel beginning, short story, poetry, etc...) that matches the entry.
- In the box at the top of the online scoring sheet, cut and paste the Entry’s Code assigned from the email. DO NOT alter the entrant's code. (To cut and paste- highlight the code, press the control button and "C". Then click in the judging form and press Control "V" to paste it.)
- Read each question and determine an appropriate score,
The following are the criteria being used to judge your entries
4-Very Good-Could still use a bit of polish
3-Solid- But could benefit from refinement
2-In Process-Needs work to meet its potential
1-Starting Point-A concept is there, needs substantial work to meet its potential
- Click the score from 1 to 5 for each question. The program will add the numbers automatically.
- Feedback greatly assists the entrant in improving his/her manuscript so please provide comments on the entry. It is so important and helpful to the writer to know *why* you are giving the score you gave.
- Please make a few remarks about the work as a whole in the comment box at the end of the online score sheet.
- Click the Attach Electronic Revisions button and upload the revised entry.
- When you have finished recording your scores and comments, please click the Submit Score button.
- A Judges Comments form will then come up if you need to let the Coordinator know something about an entry you just finished. There's no need to comment on the actual entry you just read as the Coordinator does not read any entry.
If you have questions, you may contact the contest coordinators via e-mail at writingcontestcoordinator@pennwriters.org.
